Energizer project likely to receive Act 250 review exemption

Monument Place, LCC, based in Waterbury, purchased the closed manufacturing facility for $100,000 from Energizer Manufacturing Inc., according to a listing posted with the town clerk’s office, with property listed including at 401 and 321 Gage Street and 140 and 211 Scott Street.
The property sits on a total of just over nine acres.
The oldest sections of the buildings date to their use as a textile mill before battery manufacturing began during the 1940s.
Monument Place officials could not be reached Monday for comment about their plans. Monument Place, LCC, lists Michael Drake as manager and a member/owner and Nathaniel Drake also as a member/owner.
The factory and office structures were the site most recently of Energizer facilities. Before that, it was known as Eveready Battery Company, and earlier still as a division of Union Carbide.
At its peak, the facility employed more than 700 during the 1970s.
